RunClub Head Coach

Dean Thompson is a runner’s runner. He loves all runners from the elite athlete to the person who decided yesterday to get off the couch and take her first running step. He has been running his entire life and has only missed one day since August 2012. He continues to be a competitive athlete and can still run a sub 5-minute mile at age 54. He helps coach triathletes, high school runners, and is the head coach of the Dalton State Women’s Cross Country team.

Dean lives in “Thompson’s Corner of the World” in Cohutta, GA with his wife, Debbie. He has four children and, as this is written, five grandchildren. His life verse is Joshua 1:9, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” This was God’s promise to Joshua as they entered the Promised Land. Dean believes we can hang our collective hats on that verse, no matter our circumstances.

Dean’s calling is to help make running a little more enjoyable for everyone, whether that’s coaching them to a PR, or encouraging them take that first step each day. Along the way, he loves to share thousands of connections between our running and our walk with Christ.
